What is Express Entry?
The Express Entry system was first introduced in January 2015 and is an online system used to fast-track people who bring skills that are currently required. Canada is a nation on the grow, and as such, it is hungry for workers who can help our nation flourish.
One Name, Three Programs
The Express Entry program is actually an umbrella for three separate programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Additionally, provinces can recruit potential immigrants through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The latter is likely the one you have seen the most press for, as province regularly hold draws to fill specific needs gaps.
Express Entry Criteria
You can apply for Express Entry by fulfilling the minimum criteria. This is graded on a points-based system and looks at your nationality, age (18-45 is ideal), language ability (Canada is bilingual so fluency in either French or English is essential and ability in both is scored higher again), family members (including any that already live in Canada), education, work experience (if any of this has taken place in Canada you will get a points bonus) and the big one, whether you have a job lined up.
